On Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, 39-year-old Derek Scott was shot and killed in his residence while lying in bed at his home in Garysburg. The suspect(s) drove by Derek Scott house and shot at the house with one of the bullets ultimately striking Derek Scott upon the body. This was a senseless shooting and tragic murder of a young man innocently lying in bed not bothering anyone. Derek Scott was a very kind and loving young man that has never harmed a soul and he loved life.

We encourage anyone that knows who is responsible for this senseless murder, we ask that someone step up and speak for Derek Scott, to bring justice where it is deserved. We ask anyone with information that can lead to an arrest of those involved to come forward so those responsible individual(s) can be removed from the streets to no longer shoot or harm anyone else. No one deserves to be innocently shot within the domain of his or her own home while peacefully lying in bed such as in this case. We at the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help for any information regarding this senseless and tragic murder of Derek Scott. The NC Governors Office is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Derek Antoine Scott, 39 of Garysburg.

On June 14th, 2021 the Northampton Co. Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting that occurred at a residence in Severn, NC. Upon arrival officers discovered, that 50-year-old Erskine Lawrence of Severn, NC was the victim of a shooting within the yard of his residence, resulting in his death. During the investigation, detectives have been unable to develop any evidence leading to arrest of the person(s) responsible for the death of Erskine Lawrence. We are asking for the public’s help in this case investigation and anyone that has any information that will lead to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this homicide are encouraged to submit a tip to Northampton Co. Crime Stoppers. All information will remain confidential.

On March 9, 2016 on Clover Lane in Gaston, NC the body of 29 year old Terriel High of Gaston, was found deceased on Clover Lane from apparent gunshot wounds. The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations began an investigation into the death of Terriel High. Terriel High’s tragic death has had a devastating effect on the small rural town of Gaston, NC and the surrounding communities. Northampton Co. Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations have worked numerous hours on this case without making any arrest.

Northampton County Sheriff’s Office along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are actively investigating this case and following up on all leads. Anyone with information that will aid in the investigation, arrest, and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this tragic crime is urged to submit a tip to Northampton County Crime Stoppers. All information provided no matter how small or big will be investigated and followed up on and remain confidential.

Homicide: Victim: Harvey Davis: Severn, NC: This was a case that took place between 12/23/2015 - 12/24/2015. Upon law enforcement arrival for a welfare check 85 year old Harvey Davis was found deceased within his residence located at 422 E. Main Street Severn, NC. Upon investigation, it appeared that someone broke into the home through a side door and assaulted Harvey Davis. Harvey Davis was found to have numerous puncture wounds upon his face and upper body from an apparent blunt force object that ultimately caused his death. Personal valuables, along with keys to his residence and banking institution were found to be stolen. Anyone with information on the person(s) responsible for this senseless crime are encouraged to send a Crime Stoppers Tip through the Northampton County Crime Stoppers website (or) P3 App. There is currently a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest offered through the N.C. Governor’s Office.

On the morning of Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, 22-year-old Kevin Wilson Branch was gunned down in an ambush style attack on railroad tracks located behind 125 East Central Street in Seaboard, NC.  With him at the time he was shot was his cousin, Thomas Milton, who was also shot but survived the attack.  Kevin Branch was struck several times by gunfire and succumbed to his injuries that day.  The two that were shot had just left the “Cupboard” convenience mart and were heading back in the direction of Calvert Street when they were attacked by several black males driving by in a black in color SUV. 

This case was initially investigated by the Seaboard Police Department but has since been taken over by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

On the evening of Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, 17-year-old Damon Riddick was shot and killed in his residence of 307 Faison Street in Seaboard, NC in an apparent home invasion. The suspect entered the back door of the residence brandishing a shotgun and subsequently shot Damon Riddick as he attempted to flee the residence, resulting in his death. Damon’s brother was present in the residence during the homicide, and shot back at the suspect as they fled from the residence after shooting Damon.  The suspect was described as a black male wearing all black, with a black bandana and a black toboggan on his face.  It is believed the residence was specifically targeted.

This case was initially investigated by the Seaboard Police Department but has since been taken over by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.
